How to write a statement of purpose that gets read

Applications, Sep 22, 2026, 5 min read

Start with one specific moment that pushed you toward your subject. A project, a job, a problem you could not stop thinking about. Avoid opening with a general line about education changing the world.

Then connect your past to the course. Name two or three modules or research areas at that university and say why they fit your plan. This shows you chose the course, not just the country.

Close with what you will do after graduating. Keep it to one page and one voice, and have a counsellor or teacher read it before you submit.
